8 Fun and Cozy Winter Activities

Winter might not be everyone’s favourite season of the year. The winter months can be long, dark, and boring. I know there’s a lot of overcast and grey days where most people tend to find themselves less energized when it gets dark so early. But we can turn it into a cozy and really enjoyable time of the year.

Whether you’re looking for things to do on a lazy afternoon at home or to find some fun for this winter season, I hope this can give you some ideas and inspirations on how you can make the most of the season.

  • Go Ice Skating, Skiing or Sledding

There are some really fun activities that can only be enjoyed when it’s freezing outside such as ice skating, skiing, sledding and many more. Rather than seeing the cold weather as something to be endured, you can make the most of that weather by doing those activities. Get a group of friends and have fun together. If you don’t live in a place that is cold enough to have either of those activities, maybe plan a trip around just to have that. Plan a skiing trip to the mountain for a few days with your friends or family and enjoy the stay. You’ll be surprised how much fun it can be.

  • Take a Winter Walk

I know it’s such a hassle to go out, especially during the coldest months of the year. But staying at home all the time can make us feel overwhelmed and depressed. Getting some fresh air is good for our health and help clear up our mind when we are feeling down during this time of the year. Enjoy some time outdoors by taking a walk to a local park or nearby woods for a peaceful hike. Be sure to take a break around the snow to take photos of the white winter. You can also drop by a café to grab a cup of hot drink before heading back home.

  • Try Out a New Soup or Stew Recipe

Our bodies tend to actually crave hearty and nourishing foods, and because of that, soups and stews are the most popular meal at this time of the year. These are so warm and inviting. Don’t go to a store to buy a pre-made. Instead, make your own stew or soup with the ingredients around the kitchen. Pouring your intention and effort into making a meal makes it more enjoyable and taste better. Not to mention that making your own meal is healthier than the pre-made ones.

Here are some ideas for you:

  • Set the Atmosphere

It gets darker a lot earlier at this time of the year, and I think it’s a part of the reason that we often feel depressed and a little low in energy. It’s totally normal to feel that way during the winter months. That’s also why it’s really important to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere in the house. That’s so many ways you can do this. You can light up a scented candle, you can play music, and you can put up warm and soft lighting around the house. Instead of using bright white light, switch to warmer amber light to bring a cozy glow to your space. By setting the atmosphere in your house, you can make it feel more like a place that you’ll want to spend time in.

  • Have a Movie Night

Take this opportunity to invite your friends and families over to watch a movie. You can turn it into a pyjama night or a meaningful event by making some fancy popcorn or delicious cookies and getting some fun drinks. Choose a movie that is fun and enjoyable for all to enhance the movie experience. You can decorate the living space into a home theatre, and you’ll feel extra warm and fuzzy.

  • Have a Spa Night

Set a nice and relaxing evening to pamper yourself. Do a face mask, take a long hot shower, or go for a warm bath. Do anything you can think of when you walk into a spa centre. Create an environment in your home that feels a bit spa-like. This can be playing some relaxing music, lighting a candle in your bathroom, and creating something aromatherapy. We usually rush through our skincare time and head out of the house. So, take this time to care for your body and your skin. Take the time to do and enjoy the things you often skip over or rush through like exfoliate.

  • Host a Game Night

Just now I mentioned a movie night, and this is another activity you can turn into an event. This is so incredibly easy to do. Just find some board game and bring together a group of friends to start playing. You can turn this into a potluck style meal. You can ask everyone to bring a dish to share and everyone can spend some quality time eating food, playing games and hanging out together.

  • Bake Something New

Baking is very therapeutic that perfect for this time of year. Don’t be afraid to get your hands a bit dirty because this is something you should have fun with. Try gathering your friends and family to do this together. Baking and making food together is such a fun experience, and it’s a great way you can turn an activity into a fun memory. If you’re a mum with kids, this is a meaningful memory you can build with your kids. You can make those memories with kids and ignite their passion for working in the kitchen. I know there will be a huge mess – flour flying around, egg hits the floor, but that’s fine. Baking should be fun and don’t let the mess take away the joy. There’s some preparation you can do beforehand. Have a plastic tablecloth over the work surface, prepare both wet and dry kitchen towels and clean as you go. Focus on creating the best memories with them and you’ll realize the mess isn’t a problem.
