Declutter Your Living Space In 20 Minutes

By Victoria Q

Everyone has a bit of junk lying around the house. However, the majority of us have more than a little. Many people feel stressed and life is out of control when they surround themselves with more things than they can manage especially in their house. Decluttering the entire house can be overwhelming, but taking baby steps to create a peaceful and enjoyable living space could improve your overall sense of well-being.

Learning a few practical decluttering methods can keep your home from looking a mess with minimal effort so that your home can finally feel like the peaceful, livable space you would like to spend after a tiring day at work. In this article, I’d love to share a few methods you can follow to declutter your living space without taking too much time.

  1. Make Your Bed

Your bed is the centrepiece of your room. Even the most organized and beautiful bedroom looks less tidy with an unmade bed. When the bed is made, it helps the rest of the room look styled, even if it’s a small bedroom. Furthermore, once you’ve started to make your bed, you’ll likely feel inspired to clean up the other space of the house.

2. Clear Off All Surfaces

The fastest way to make your home look less cluttered is to keep all of the flat surfaces clean and clear such as nightstands, tabletops, countertops and more. Remove everything on the surfaces, put them on the floor and go through one by one and only add back the necessary. Put the rest of the unnecessary things in a drawer or cabinet. Also, consider donating the stuff you don’t need if you see any.

3. Use Basket

Baskets are your perfect solution when it comes to avoiding any sort of clutter. These handy organizers come in a variety of styles, sizes and materials that can be used in any kind of house. You can throw truly anything into a beautifully designed nesting basket – be it blankets, kids’ toys, books, or any random pieces of stuff. A basket can also be a good décor and makes your room instantly become polished and clear.

4. Get Rid Of Anything Expired

Sure you have some expired items lurking at your bathroom cabinet, kitchen pantry or the most famous place in the house – fridge and freezer. We tend to keep things in the fridge/freezer and forgotten their existence. Also, for all of the ladies out there, do you constantly check the expiry date of your cosmetics and skincare products? You should throw away the expired products because they can cause irritation, breakouts, spreading infection, etc. So, go through your medicine cabinet, cosmetics and toiletries, kitchen pantry, fridge and freezer and get rid of anything that is either past its expiry date or unsafe to use.

5. Shred Or Recycle Anything Outdated

You may likely keep all those receipts or bills you paid last month or whenever to keep track of your monthly budget. It’s definitely a good way to keep track of your budget. But, if you keep those receipts and bills for more than a year, they could just be sitting around collecting dust. There’s no use in hanging on to outdated receipts or bills you paid last year. Keep only the recent one and collect all the papers you don’t need, recycle the ones that aren’t sensitive, and shred the ones that are.
